Are you an experienced and enthusiastic project engineer in the chemical industry and ready to tackle challenging and multidisciplinary projects? Join our dynamic team where you will drive production efficiency and enhance safety and environmental performance. As part of the wider Argent team, you’ll support projects across our production site in Amsterdam, including our Biodiesel plants, Glycerine refinery plant, Membrane Bio Reactor Wastewater Treatment, and large Tank terminal, making a significant impact on our operations and carbon footprint.


(Senior) Project Engineer

Fulltime based in Amsterdam


Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Strategic Collaboration: You will support the plant managers, production experts and process engineer in defining solutions to operational problems and optimizing the performance of the plant. Particular attention is paid to the feasibility of the project plan in operational chemical plants and the successful implementation of the project.
  • Project implementation: You will work closely with a process engineer to develop projects with a clear scope. You are responsible for the work preparation and ensure that the project is carried out safely and successfully within the set time and budget.
  • Innovative project and construction management: You will lead a diverse portfolio of projects, ranging from €2 million expansions to smaller modifications. You are in charge from the project plan to handover to the user. The focus is on improving environmental, safety and production performance through a sound project approach, accurate engineering reviews, including contractor supervision and guidance during the execution phase and a complete handover.
  • Team leadership: Develop, mentor, and motivate small teams, in collaboration with Argent, EPCm contractors, and technology partners. An important part of your role is supervising contractors on the shop floor and coordinating their work in day-to-day operations.
  • Change management: You will ensure that all changes are secure, compliant, and reliable by overseeing the site's change management process, where you will be responsible for implementing the requirements, a thorough EHS plan, and updating the asset management system and drawings.
  • Excellence in Procurement: You will work with the procurement team to develop and implement contract strategies that deliver maximum value for Argent, with a special focus on the preparation and oversight of procurement activities.
  • Project control: You apply project control to manage planning, costs, and safety risks. Ensure progress is regularly reported to both Argent and external stakeholders, with compliance monitoring a priority.
  • Knowledge sharing: Collaborate with other Argent locations to provide technical support for project execution and implementation, which may require occasional travel within the Netherlands and to the United Kingdom.

About You

Qualifications

  • Master’s or bachelor’s degree in Engineering or relevant to Chemical or Sustainable Energy Technology.
  • Project Management Qualification or proven experience is mandatory.
  • Continuous Improvement training is advantageous.
  • Process Safety training.

Specific Knowledge, Experience & Skills

  • Proven success in managing construction teams and contractors in chemical industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver projects without incidents, on time and within budget.
  • Strong knowledge of the management of change process for chemical process plants.
  • Excellent facilitation skills to engage cross-functional teams.
  • Strong leadership abilities to inspire action and to maintain focus on the purpose.
  • Commercial acumen and strong business analytical skills.
