The Argent Biodiesel production will be further expanded in the coming years through the construction of a new production plant at our location in Amsterdam. As a result, the maintenance team needs an additional:
Reliability Engineer
Fulltime based in Amsterdam
Main purpose of the job:
The Reliability Engineer Mechanical ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the mechanical scope (rotating equipment, piping system, heat exchangers) across Argent site chemical plants. The role balances regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and asset lifecycle optimization, with strong emphasis on process safety, Seveso (BRZO) compliance, and environmental standards.

Reliability & Safety
• Drive reliability improvement of the mechanical assets critical for chemical process safety (e.g., SIS, ESD systems, fire & gas detection).
• Ensure compliance with Dutch Seveso requirements, ATEX, and NEN standards.
• Apply FMECA, RCA, and LOPA methodologies to reduce unplanned failures and safety risks.
Maintenance Strategy Development
• Develop reliability-centred maintenance (RCM) programs for mechanical assets in line with plant safety and production needs.
• Implement predictive diagnostics: insulation monitoring, vibration, thermal imaging, loop checks, analyser performance tracking.
• Support preventive and condition-based strategies to comply with audit and safety requirements.
Asset Lifecycle & Obsolescence
• Manage lifecycle planning for critical mechanical equipment, installations subject to obsolescence.
• Evaluate total cost of ownership for replacements and retrofits in alignment with plant CAPEX planning.
• Support commissioning, FAT/SAT, and reliability acceptance testing of new installations.
Risk & Criticality Management
• Perform risk-based equipment criticality assessments for mechanical systems.
• Develop redundancy and protection strategies (risk parts, back-up, SLA’s) for high-risk assets.
Continuous Improvement Projects
• Lead reliability improvement initiatives to reduce downtime, optimize maintenance cost, and increase plant availability.
• Identify “bad actors” and propose engineering solutions to eliminate recurring failures.
Data & Systems
• Maintain and analyse asset data in CMMS (Ultimo) and historian systems.
• Report KPIs (downtime, safety integrity compliance) to management.
• Support regulatory audits and inspections with evidence-based reliability documentation.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, HSE, and Engineering teams to align reliability goals with production and safety.
• Act as subject matter expert during internal/external audits and shutdown/turnaround planning.
• Provide training on reliability culture and methodologies to technicians and operators.

Job requirements
About You
You recognize yourself in the following competences: strong data analyses, problem-solving, flexible, stress resilience, pragmatic, communicative & independent. In addition, you have:
Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical Engineering.
5+ years’ experience in reliability, maintenance, or engineering roles within the chemical, petrochemical, or process industry.
Knowledge of Dutch/European regulations (BRZO, ATEX, NEN/ISO) is essential.
Experience in shutdown/turnaround reliability planning is an advantage.
Fluent in Dutch, English proficiency highly valued.
