The role operates Mon to Fri, 8am to 4pm, with a salary of up to £50k, dependant on skills, experience, and competency. An on‑call rota is in place, paid at £305 per week, with additional payment for call‑out hours on-site. The rota typically operates on a 1‑in‑5 basis, equating to approximately £3k per annum on top of base salary. Overtime is available, and the maintenance team supports 3x planned shutdowns per year for each UK site, during which key maintenance and major works are carried out within defined time windows with extended hours/weekends for the team to execute.

Main Purpose of the Role

Working as part of a multi-skilled maintenance team responsible for making sure that all maintenance activities are carried out safely, efficiently and to a high standard to ensure we deliver a reliable production unit which maximises its output. Ensure both preventative and corrective maintenance is carried out in a timely manner and complies with both Argent policies / standards and external standards e.g. EA, HSE and EAWR. Perform all requested engineering duties to include modifications and re-engineering of plant as required. 

What you will be doing:

  • Inspect & Execute planned/preventative maintenance on Electrical and Instrumentation hardware across the production units.

  • Actively monitor the CMMS (Ultimo) to ensure reactive and schedule jobs are completed and closed out.

  • Ensure compliance with electrical regulations and safety rules.

  • Prepare isolations & RAMS in accordance with the site Permit to Work system

  • Support, assist and deputise for the Team Leader where necessary.

  • Participate in the EI on-call rota and support critical out of hours breakdowns.

  • Support the planning of EI scopes for capex projects/improvements and shutdowns.

  • Follow correct processes e.g management of change and critical spares.

Job requirements

Skills and behaviours you will need to be successful:

  • Post apprenticeship experience working as an Electrical/Instrumentation Technician within the Chemical/Oil & Gas Industry.

  • Experience of maintaining and installing ATEX systems.

  • Competent on LV equipment – isolations/de-Isolations & fault finding.

  • Experience working with and maintaining LV motors and strong knowledge of different types of motor control circuits.

  • Knowledge and experience with HV switchgear isolations/de-isolations & fault finding desirable.

  • Competent at interpreting electrical diagrams/schematics

  • Knowledge of the Electricity at Work Regs 1989

  • Knowledge of process control instrumentation, temp, pressure, flow, level, weight etc.

  • Knowledge of Plant control systems, DCS’s, PLC’s, SCADA, HMI’s, relay logic.

  • MEWP licensed preferred but not essential.

Qualifications required:

  • Industry recognised Apprenticeship in Electrical/Instrumentation Engineering

  • COMPEX trained Ex 1-4 (Gas & Vapours) (Desirable)

  • CEP trained, working towards AEP
